Giordano Dance Chicago (GDC) is America’s original jazz dance company, captivating audiences worldwide with dynamic performances and the diversity and wide appeal of its repertoire. The mission of Giordano Dance Chicago is to create and present new and innovative jazz dance choreography, often redefining and expanding the very definition of jazz dance, and to bring this invaluable American art form to audiences and students of all ages and from all ethnic backgrounds. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, under the artistic leadership of Glenn Edgerton, celebrates its 37th season in 2014 and 2015. Among the world’s top contemporary dance companies and a global cultural ambassador, Hubbard Street demonstrates fluency in a wide range of techniques and forms, and is critically acclaimed for its exuberant, innovative repertoire. Since its founding by Lou Conte in 1977, Hubbard Street has grown through the establishment of multiple platforms. Each is dedicated to the support and advancement of dance as an art form, as a practice, and as a method for generating and sustaining communities.

The Joffrey Ballet is a professional dance company resident in Chicago, Illinois. The company regularly performs classical ballets, including Romeo & Juliet and The Nutcracker, while balancing those classics with pioneering modern dance pieces. Many prolific choreographers have worked with the Joffrey including Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp, George Balanchine, and founders Gerald Arpino and Robert Joffrey. Founded as a touring company in 1956, it was based in New York City until 1995. The company is now headquartered in Joffrey Tower, and performs its October-May season at the Auditorium Theatre .

Seeking Dance Companies to Join DFL Chicago 2016 for our 25th Anniversary:
If you’d like your professional dance company to take part in this annual event, please submit a DVD or video file (Vimeo, AVI, MOV, MP4, MPEG, or WMV) of your selected work no later than February 28, 2017. Please submit only one piece. Each submission is reviewed by three Chicago Dance Critics who will make recommendations for inclusion in DFL 2016.
Below are a few simple guidelines to be used to determine your best submission. Submissions cannot be considered by the critics that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- All submissions must be from a Chicagoland based professional company.
- We are looking for JOYFUL or UPLIFTING dance submissions as DFL is a celebration of life and dance.
- Large company works are the strength of this event and are encouraged.
- Works should be no longer than ten (10) minutes in length.
- Video submission MUST be of the actual dance to be considered for DFL. If the stage performance has low lighting that makes it difficult to view on video, please submit a rehearsal video as well.
- Lighting and set design must be kept simple due to the nature of the event (No major lighting specials, no additional drapery, nothing that requires extra load-in or rigging).
- No youth or children’s dance groups.
